Speech Language Pathologist

Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp Bethel, AK (Onsite) Full-Time

Position Summary:

Provides advanced professional clinical speech language pathology services to a diverse population of clients across a wide spectrum of diagnoses and therapy needs. Provides assessment, treatment and evaluation of speech and language therapy patients in an accurate and timely manner. Documents evaluation outcomes, findings and treatments. Provides services in collaboration with physicians, patient and family, and all team members; and assists or compliments direct patient care. Pathologist applies age specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care. Provides summary of results, statistics, and metrics as required by management. Adheres to the regulatory and practice standards of speech and language pathology along with TJC, OSHA, and Corporate Policies. Supports Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation’s mission statement.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Must have a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Minimum Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience working with a multiple age group ranging from adolescent to geriatric patients.  An equivalent combination of relevant education and /or training may be substituted for experience.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Licensed by the State of Alaska in the field of Speech Language Pathology AND Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Equipment/Tools: Office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine).  Standard Speech and Language Pathology assessment and screening tools.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

    • LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other medical staff as part of a collaborative team. Able to participate in special committees as appropriate, and serve as a professional representative of the Infant Learning Program department at all times. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from physicians, medical staff, managers, clients, and the general public.  Ability to communicate effectively with members of a different culture who may or may not speak English.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
