Director of Nursing Services, Skilled Nursing Facility
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) is located in the Southwestern Alaska town of Bethel, with a total of approximately 6,000 people. YKHC supports 1500 employees, providing the health services to a primarily Yup'ik Eskimo Native population for an area the size of Oregon. Services are provided through a Bethel located hospital and 50 clinics throughout the YK Delta.
Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is the daily direct care services of the facility in a professional manner using its resources effectively and efficiently to attain and maintain the highest level of care to residents in accordance with regulatory standards. Responsible for supervision of the direct care staff to include training, overseeing, motivating and evaluating department staff.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing. Additional course work in management an asset.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum of four years working in geriatric nursing, including experience with medication administration, delivery systems and pharmacies preferred. Two years in supervisory/management position, with experience with budgets, staff development, training and scheduling preferred.
- License, Certification, Registration: Must be licensed as an RN, in good standing with the State of Alaska.
- Equipment/Tools/Word-Aids: Office equipment (i.e., computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.)

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Language Skills - Able to communicate effectively, in English, with personnel at all levels of the organization, with residents and their friends and family, and with members of the community. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to maintain basic financial records of expenditures of the department. Able to understand budgets.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to accurately assess residents and staff needs, problem-solve to meet those needs, to develop training for staffs needs, and to evaluate results. Individual must be a team player, well organized, and flexible.
