Physician Service Chief

Position Summary: The Physician Service Chief is responsible for clinical supervision and leadership of Primary Care’s MD and DO providers. The Physician Service Chief is required to be a clinical leader and provider with experience to assess clinical competence and current best practices. This position requires maintaining clinical best practices and skills by working in clinic and direct patient contact at 50% capacity. The remainder of the position includes administrative duties such as:

• Recruitment and retention activities for Physician staff members
• Improve and maintain Primary Care’s continuity system for providers and patients alike
• Regularly review clinical staff performance to ensure quality of care and efficient use of resources
• Maintain clinical activity by full participation in departmental clinical workload
• Participate and occasionally lead process improvement events in relation to Primary Care clinics

Minimum Education: Must obtain M.D. or D.O.

Minimum Experience: 5 years minimum clinical experience. 2 years minimum in a supervisory role.

License, Certification, Registration: Valid and unrestricted Alaska Medical License. Must maintain CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirement. 

Equipment/Tools: Must have computer skills needed to access electronic medical records.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Must have sufficient knowledge and experience to monitor and assess clinical competences. Must have interpersonal skills to deal harmoniously with a large number of staff. Must have demonstrated ability to meet responsibilities of the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of Primary Care physician level medical staff, medical students, residents, physician extenders.
