Natural Resources Research Coordinator

Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp Bethel, AK (Onsite) Full-Time

Position Summary: The Community One Health Coordinator is essential to the SARS-CoV-2 Participatory Animal Surveillance in Alaska (SPASAK) project, aimed at engaging Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Alaska to enhance disease surveillance through participatory monitoring for zoonotic illnesses. This role serves as the local point of contact, coordinating with stakeholders such as Tribal Councils, Native Associations, wildlife organizations, and public health agencies to facilitate research and community engagement. Responsibilities include managing data sovereignty agreements, supporting biological and social science data collection, and coordinating public health activities including wastewater sampling and specimen management.

This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, a deep understanding of cultural sensitivities within Indigenous and rural communities, and a background in Public Health, Environmental Science, Anthropology, or a related field. The coordinator will ensure that all project activities are culturally sensitive and respect the nutritional, socioeconomic, and cultural dimensions of Indigenous rights and food security, reflecting a commitment to advancing Indigenous Peoples' self-determination in research and ensuring mutual health benefits.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental health, public health, one health, or related field. Education can be substituted for experience at the discretion of the Director of Public Health

Minimum Experience: No experience required. 

License, Certification, Registration: No credentials are required     

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Superior verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.  The ability to use a computer for word processing.  The ability to schedule; plan; and organize resources, information, and time.  The ability to understand basic mechanical systems.  Ability to communicate in Yupik or Athabascan.  (preferred)
